The Story of Himwant

From the Terraces of Uttarakhand to Your Home

Rooted in the Soil

Cultivated in Pristine Heights

The Himalayas are not just mountains; they are home to thousands of years of farming wisdom. In Garhwal and Kumaon, crops are cultivated in stepped fields carved into mountain slopes, irrigated by natural spring water and fertilized using pure forest leaf compost and cattle manure.

Himwant Store was born in Dehradun with a simple mission: to preserve these traditional rain-fed agricultural systems. We bring you authentic, unprocessed crops that are packed with high-altitude nutrition, raw flavors, and rich medicinal properties.

Ancient Technology

The Slow-Grinding 'Gharat' (Watermills)

Traditional Pahadi grains like Mandua (millet) and Gehun (wheat) are slow-ground in a 'Gharat'—a local watermill driven by wild mountain streams. Unlike modern electric high-heat rollers that burn vital nutrients, the slow friction of stone-grinding keeps the grains cold, retaining natural oils, minerals, and healthy dietary fibers.

By promoting flour ground in local village watermills, we help restore these eco-friendly marvels and create livelihood channels for rural millers (Gharatis) in remote valleys of Rudraprayag and Tehri.

Empowering Village Women Cooperatives

The backbone of Himalayan agriculture is its women. They take care of planting, weeding, post-harvest drying, and spice grinding. We collaborate directly with women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs) and cooperatives under village Panchayats.

Each purchase at Himwant Store sends direct payments into their bank accounts, reducing rural migration and allowing village families to thrive independently in their scenic ancestral mountain homes.
